Wow! On Friday the 4th April we had our first inaugural RACE FOR A REASON at the Geelong Racing Club. We started the day with Dan Flynn from Thank You Water who was inspiring as he told of his journey to starting his own distribution company for “Thank You Water” which provides life changing solutions to people in need. His story was a lesson in perseverance and resilience.
The fun kicked off with John Dunne interviewing Cameron Ling, Ben Riddle auctioning off some amazing prizes from Balloon rides to Holidays in Hamilton Island. Ian Cover from the Coodabeens helped Ben sell a unique fishing experience with Peter Anderson a director of APCO.
The silent auction had over 52 items, with many guests grabbing a bargain! The Wall of Wine was a great success and the tickets were sold within minutes of them going on sale. It was well worth it with the chance of winning a bottle of Grange donated by Cellarbrations. Victoria and Richard Henderson were there with their pop up shops Ruby and Leo and Blue Suede. They awarded prizes for the best dressed ladies and the most dapper gents. Everyone had dressed up in their finery so it was a difficult decision but the winners certainly deserved the prize.
And I think someone said there were horses there as well!! The punters club had a great day and at the end they donated $860 dollars to the APCO Foundation. At the end of the day we had raised $32,499!!!
It was an amazing effort by all involved and a special thank you to those who supported, attended, donated and helped us get to this amazing amount. We have a couple of small bills to pay out but I think that the Cops n Kids will be getting a very generous cheque very soon.
While we all had a great time it is a sobering thought that some families are struggling with the serious illness of a child and how that can affect the whole family. The work that Cops n Kids do gives these families the chance for some respite and as for the kids they get some amazing experiences which help them get through some pretty tough times. I am so proud of how the APCO community have worked together to raise this fantastic amount of money.
